NEED NEUTER ASSISTANCE?

We would much rather help you get your pet fixed over re-homing a litter of kittens any day! So let’s be proactive and get your pets, strays and barn cats taken care of. Please email info@cattyshackhuntsville.org if you would like to get information about how we can help. Generally, we will set up an appointment for you, on our account, at the North Alabama Spay Neuter Clinic or at Flint River Animal Hospital.

You can also check out this website for assistance all across Alabama if you are located outside of Huntsville and need something more convenient.

Check out Greater Huntsville Humane Society’s Kings Kitchen Program to help feed your pet and the Banfield Foundation to search the national bank of vet assistance programs. Do not search by state, click on the National list.

REHOMING YOUR PET?

We are a shelter-only rescue. That means your pet does not take priority over a cat or kitten in the shelter that will be euthanized at the end of the week. However, we will consider helping you re-home your pet if you are able to foster it until it is adopted.

  • Your vet must provide paperwork showing it is FeLV/FIV negative
  • Your vet must provide paperwork showing is is up to date on FVRCP and rabies
  • Pet must already be spayed/neutered
  • You will be required to sign an Owner Surrender Form
  • We ask that you make a donation to our rescue for taking advantage of our resources. Please specify “owner surrender” if it allows to list a reason. Send a screenshot to info@cattyshackhuntsville.org or our social media DMs.

The website No-Kill Huntsville has amazing community resources including information about pet-friendly housing options in the area, what to do if you find a stray, and other advice on how to safely re-home your pet.

DIY pet placement sites:

Please do not EVER post an animal “free to a good home”, and always ask for a vet reference. You want to make sure the new owners are good pet owners and understand the importance of vaccinations, indoor life, and know that they will not declaw the cat.

FOUND A STRAY?

First and foremost, you have to make sure that animal does not have an owner desperately trying to find it! Take it to a vet or shelter to scan for a microchip. Post on lost and found sites, NextDoor, PetFBI.org, and neighborhood Facebook pages. Let your local shelter know you’ve found the animal and where it’s located (see No Kill Huntsville’s website). If after 3 days, nobody has claimed it, and you can foster it, then please reach out to us by emailing info@cattyshackhuntsville.org. We may be able to help.

If you cannot foster, or we do not have room to assist, we have no choice but to refer you to your local shelter. There it will be vetted, fed, safe from the elements, and hopefully pulled by another rescue or adopted. Our foster homes are dedicated to shelter animals that do not have an advocate, are not safe, and who will be euthanized. Thank you for understanding.

**Please note, that if you have been feeding and caring for a stray cat for several weeks, months, or years, and are just now seeking assistance, it will be considered a pet (See Rehoming Your Pet paragraph above).

Fostering a Stray You’ve Found: We appreciate that you are willing to help a homeless kitty and keep the shelters from being overpopulated. But we need you to do the footwork to help get these kitties adopted! It’s how we get the job done! We can provide the resources, food, vetting and meds, but you will be required to provide photos for profiles, sign them up to come to the cat lounge, and get them to the vet appointments we schedule, just as all of our shelter-only foster homes do. To fill out a foster application and read more about fostering, click here. The cats must be friendly, good with other cats and children, and if you have dogs in your home that’s even better! We also ask that after you’ve used our rescue’s resources and donor dollars, that that you stick around and pay it forward by fostering at LEAST the same number of shelter cats for us.
