🐾 Need Help With a Cat? Start Here!

At Cattyshack, we want to connect our community with the right resourcesβ€”whether you need help with spay/neuter, pet food, vet care, rehoming, or a stray cat situation.

βœ‚οΈ Need Spay/Neuter Assistance?

We would much rather help you get your pet fixed than help rehome a litter of kittens later. Prevention truly saves lives.

We can often help schedule (and sometimes help cover) appointments at:
🐾 North Alabama Spay Neuter Clinic
🐾 Flint River Animal Hospital
🐾 Best Friends Animal Hospital

πŸ“§ Email us first: rescue@cattyshackhuntsville.org

🏑 Need to Rehome Your Pet?

Cattyshack is a shelter-priority rescue, which means cats facing euthanasia or critical medical situations must come first.

We may be able to assist if you can:
βœ”οΈ Foster your pet until adoption
βœ”οΈ Ensure required vetting is completed
βœ”οΈ A suggested donation of $75 as a rehoming service fee is requested to help cover time and resources that are being put into your pet, which is time and resources taken away from the ones being euthanized. Why a rehoming fee? Read this article to see what goes into approving an adopter. Additionally, we are trusting your description of the cat vs actually knowing the cat – which is a huge liability for us.Β

Minimum vetting required:
βœ”οΈ FeLV/FIV test
βœ”οΈ Current FVRCP & Rabies vaccines
βœ”οΈ Spayed or neutered

πŸ“§ Vet records must be sent to: info@cattyshackhsv.org

πŸ’‘ If housing costs (pet rent/deposits) are the reason, we can also point you toward ESA resourcesβ€”just ask!

πŸ”Ž Rehoming on Your Own?

If the above isn’t an option, please take steps to do it safely.

⚠️ Never post a pet as β€œFree to a Good Home.”

Always require:
πŸ“Œ A vet reference
πŸ“Œ Commitment to indoor-only living
πŸ“Œ Agreement to never declaw

Self-listing options:

🐈 Found a Stray Cat?

Before assuming the cat is homeless, make sure an owner isn’t looking for them.

Steps to take:
1️⃣ Have the cat scanned for a microchip (any vet or shelter)
2️⃣ Post on:
πŸ“± Nextdoor β†’ https://nextdoor.com
πŸ“± PetFBI β†’ https://petfbi.org
πŸ“± Local Lost & Found Facebook groups
3️⃣ Notify Huntsville Animal Services
πŸ‘‰ https://www.huntsvilleal.gov/environment/animal-services/

πŸ“Œ Stray cats must complete a stray hold at a shelter before we can take them in. We would need to have a photo and their kennel number.Β

πŸ‘‰ If you are able to foster, we can often step in quickly after the hold period.

⚠️ If you have been feeding and caring for a cat long-term, it is considered your pet. Please refer to the rehoming section above. ^^^

πŸ” Lost Your Cat?

πŸ”Ž Check Huntsville Animal Services listings:
πŸ‘‰ https://www.huntsvilleal.gov/environment/animal-services/

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ Visit the shelter in person (this is the most effective step)

Bring:
πŸ“Έ A clear photo
πŸ“Œ Identifying details

πŸ’‘ Many cats are brought in by well-meaning people who believe they are strays.

πŸ’¬ Not sure what to do? Reach outβ€”we’re happy to point you in the right direction.
